Tropical Paradise in the Tundra

Posted: December 06, 2017

We’ve all been there before: Rapid City is blanketed in snow in the dead of winter, it’s well below freezing, and we see pictures of our friends in swimsuits on a beach somewhere in Florida. We’re instantly wishing we could join in the tropical relief.

For many of us, this is a seasonal battle. However, WaTiki Waterpark, nestled on the eastern edge of the Black Hills, offers solace to locals and travelers alike braving the frozen tundra of South Dakota in the winter.

At WaTiki, it’s always a comfortable 84° inside the glass-enclosed tropical paradise. With the view of the Black Hills covered in snow, you finish the climb to the top of the slides and splash down into the warm water below.

WaTiki is a family-friendly, safe environment prepped and ready for hours of fun. Climb the 69 steps and splash down through one of three huge slides that tower over the park. Relax in the spacious hot tub. Navigate your way across the lily pads in our activity pool. Wade down the lazy river in a tube and get one of the most unique views of the park. Plus, during the winter months, admission prices are slashed.

Bonus: There’s still about three weeks remaining on WaTiki’s half-priced season pass sale. You can escape the cold and wind of a Black Hills winter day whenever you’d like. Available in individual or family passes good for three, six, or twelve months, they can fit even the most hectic of schedules. But hurry. The half-price sale only lasts until December 30.

In perspective, the largest package available, the annual family season pass, equates out to just $0.68 per day. Look at it this way: Every time you and your family go to WaTiki with the annual family season pass, you’re spending $0.14 per person to enter the park. Beat that deal with anything else you try to find.
